Job Summary
The main role of this position is to:
● Ensure effective appropriate and timely delivery of the PYP curriculum
● Provide direction, supervision and care for students
● Ensure effective classroom management
● Make a full contribution to the life of the school, including extra-curricular activities
Teach classes as allocated
● Plan work collaboratively in accordance with PYP Coordinator, Subject Leader, the department
schemes of work and Primary Years Programmes scope and sequence
● Support students with learning needs and offer enrichment and enhancement to the most able
through a differentiated curriculum
● Moderate student performance to ensure consistency and coherence of standards across the year
group/school
● Take full account in planning and teaching of students’ individual learning needs, learning styles
● Use ICT and technology to enhance the quality of teaching and learning
● Ensure that students are engaged and motivated, and enthusiastic in the learning process
● Demonstrate effective pedagogic and interpersonal skills in the classroom
● Promote confidence and independence in students, encouraging them to become life-long learners
● Work collaboratively with colleagues in planning the delivery of the PYP curriculum.
● Show respect for colleagues by being prepared for meetings, arriving punctually, adhering to schoolwide meeting norms, and applying and supporting agreements made in those meetings at all times.
● Set work for students when absent from school for health or other reasons
● Maintain good discipline by adherence to the agreed behaviour policy and other agreed procedures
● Set high expectations for students’ behaviour by establishing a purposeful working atmosphere
● Set appropriate and demanding expectations for students’ learning, motivation and presentation of
work
● Maintain an attractive and stimulating classroom environment and contribute to displays in the school
as a whole
2. Assessment, Recording and Reporting:
● Implement the Bright Minds assessment policy
● Maintain notes and plans of lessons undertaken and records of students’ work
● Report constructively through open communication with parents; by way of interview, telephone
conversation, student reports and the maintenance of anecdotal records
● Develop, construct and implement a balanced range of assessment tasks to provide students with the
opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, skills ,attitudes, action and ways of working
● Become informed about students learning characteristics and academic capabilities through use of
internal and external data
● Be familiar with and take account of students’ prior levels of attainment and use them to set targets
for future improvement
● Evaluate assessment tasks and maintain records of student achievement
● Adhere to understand external criteria and standards to contextualise student progress
● Mark, monitor and return work within a reasonable and agreed time span, providing constructive oral
and written feedback and clear targets for future learning as appropriate
● Liaise with Head of Preschool/ Lower Primary and subject leaders about unsatisfactory student
progress, and plan interventions as necessary
● Attend the appropriate Parent/Student meetings to keep parents informed as to the progress of their
child
● First point of contact for student facing any issues including academic, and social
3. Pastoral Care
● Take responsibility for the pastoral needs, duty of care and standards of behavior of all students
inside and outside the classroom
● Work with the counsellor and the subject leaders to monitor and promote the individual and social
development of students
● Monitor and support school policy with regard to issues such as uniform, punctuality, chewing gum,
use of mobile phones etc. Challenge and report lapses to the appropriate member of staff.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in early childhood or education
